KCU Graduation Ceremony Celebrates Kurdish Heritage
December 16, 2025

The Kurdish Community of Utah (KCU) hosted a graduation ceremony for the Fall 2025 educational program, honoring the hard work of Kurdish kids. Families and dedicated volunteer teachers filled the room, making it a lively celebration of the children’s accomplishments. The ceremony was packed with fun activities that had the kids excited, creating a joyful vibe for everyone involved.

KCU Vice President Kamal Bewar told Kurdistan Chronicle that the main goal of the ceremony was to recognize and celebrate the kids’ commitment to learning about Kurdish history, language, culture, and religion. The event kicked off with a speech from the keynote speaker, KCU President Mohammed Shwani, who emphasized the ceremony’s purpose and the mission behind the KCU’s educational program for children.

After the opening remarks, KCU took a moment to recognize some key community partners. KCU President Shwani and several board members presented awards to the Emerald Hills Institute and the Muslim Community Center for their vital support and collaboration, especially for allowing the KCU to use their facilities as a learning space for the kids.

With a large Kurdish community in Utah, the KCU aims to be a home for all Kurds and unite them. As mentioned by Bewar, they also provide cultural presentations where the kids showcase their pride in their heritage by discussing the significance of the Kurdistan flag and the Kurdish language and culture. During the program, the children demonstrated what they learned through engaging presentations, including a performance of “Ey Shaheedan” (Oh, Martyr) and “Kurdim” (I am Kurdish), two powerful Kurdish songs.

The event wrapped up with heartfelt comments from several parents, who expressed their deep appreciation for KCU, its board members, the volunteer teachers, and everyone who made the Kurdish educational program a success.
