FIFA on Tuesday announced that the fans of Zakho SC have won the FIFA Fan Award 2025 for their efforts in helping children who suffer with illnesses.

“Congratulations to the passionate fans of Zakho FC on winning FIFA’s Best Fan Award. Thank you to everyone who voted,” Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Barzani posted on X.
“This is a great win for sports and for sports fans across Kurdistan and Iraq.”
The FIFA Fan Award, established in 2016, honors an exceptional moment or gesture by a football fan or group of fans that embodies the spirit of the game.
“The fans of Zakho SC are deserving winners of the 2025 FIFA Fan Award for their heartwarming gesture in May 2025,” Gianni Infantino, the FIFA President posted on Instagram.
“Ahead of a game against Al-Hudood SC, the supporters of @zakhosc1987 threw thousands of stuffed children’s toys onto the pitch from the stands, which were then gathered and donated to local youth struggling with illness,” he added.
“This moment of generosity and collective compassion was moving and inspiring, showing how football unites and binds us. It is my honour to congratulate all of you – thank you very much!”
“Throwing children’s toys inside the stadium showed exemplary humanitarian spirit, recognised by the sports community in Kurdistan, Iraq, and Asia," a club statement read. “Our fans are the backbone of the team and consistently draw attention with their creative activities. We hope their support continues as we strive for greater success.”
Zakho FC was founded in 1987 in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and has grown into one of the top teams in Iraqi football, reaching the top of the Iraq Stars League, led by the Qatari coach Talal al-Bloushi.
