On Sunday, President Masoud Barzani held a phone call with Tom Barrack, U.S. Special Envoy to Syria and Ambassador to Turkey, in which the two officials agreed that all efforts should be taken to prevent further conflict in Syria.
Fighting between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Damascus has stopped since the two groups reached an agreement on January 30.
Furthermore, the Kurds and Damascus are now holding discussions on the deployment of Syrian Interior Forces, and the creation of three brigades for Hasakah and one brigade for Kobani.
During the phone call, both officials shared their perspectives on the overall political climate in the region, as well as the most recent developments and changes in Syria, the readout from the Barzani Headquarters said.
They also mutually agreed that all efforts and necessary measures should be taken to avert chaos, instability, and conflict, and to ensure peace and stability.
In the same conversation, both officials praised each other’s significant contributions and the important roles they have played in fostering peace and stability in the region.
President Barzani also conveyed his gratitude for the United States’ involvement and underscored the importance of maintaining the alliance between the people of Kurdistan and the United States.

Last Friday, President Barzani also received a delegation headed by SDF Commander-in-Chief General Mazloum Abdi and urged the SDF and Damascus to implement the recent ceasefire agreement.
The SDF delegation also met with France’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean-Noel Barrot during the minister’s visit to Erbil on Thursday.
Since fighting broke out between Kurdish forces and Damascus in early January, the Kurdish leadership in Erbil has played a major role in stopping the conflict and finding a peaceful solution.
