U.S. Donates Emergency Rescue Tools to Kurdistan

On Wednesday, the U.S. Consulate General in Erbil announced that they had donated emergency life saving tools to emergency responders in the Kurdistan Region.


The Consulate General posted on X that they had donated “Jaws of Life tools to [the Kurdistan Regional Government] Civil Defense Directorate to enhance emergency response abilities across [the Iraqi Kurdistan Region].”


“These tools save lives, strengthen communities, & demonstrate American excellence in emergency preparedness & response.”


In a statement, the General Directorate of Civil Defense said that Major General Yadgar Anwar, KRG Director-General of Civil Defense, welcomed Gwendolyn Green, the U.S. Consul General in Erbil, on Wednesday, along with her accompanying delegation.


The purpose of the visit was the donation of 12 U.S.-made “Jaws of Life” hydraulic rescue tools from the U.S. Consulate General in Erbil to the Civil Defense rescue teams. During the visit, Consul General Green observed ongoing training sessions of firefighting and emergency response capabilities.


At the conclusion of the visit, Director-General Anwar and Consul General Green observed joint training exercises involving teams from the three governorates of Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, and Duhok. The Directorate of Civil Defense added that comprehensive discussions were held regarding all training programs and mutual wishes for continued success were expressed.


The United States has a strong economic, military, and political relationship with the Kurdistan Region.

Last year in December, a new $800-million consulate – the largest U.S. consulate in the world – was opened in Erbil.

Also in December last year, the U.S. Consulate General in Erbil donated advanced medical first responder equipment to the Zeravani Peshmerga forces.
