On Tuesday, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani called on Baghdad to stop attacks on the Kurdistan Region.
Four days since the conflict started between the United States, Israel, and Iran, there has been an increase in drone and missile attacks on the Kurdistan Region.
“Tension, war, and instability are affecting the region,” Prime Minister Barzani said. “It is unfortunate that our region has once again been struck by such hardship. Even more troubling is that in recent days, certain outlawed terrorist elements have targeted Erbil.
“We call on the federal government not to allow these outlawed terrorists to continue attacking Kurdistan, because we cannot remain silent indefinitely.
“I thank the resilience of the people of Kurdistan, and rest assured that we will make every effort to protect the people of Kurdistan and our Kurdistan and to keep it away from war and chaos,” he added.
Prime Minister Barzani said that they “will strive to keep Kurdistan distant from these conflicts in the region and will continue to safeguard our achievements.
“I urge the people of Kurdistan to follow the guidelines and protect themselves in every way. I hope these difficulties will soon come to an end and that peace and stability will replace war, tension, and violence,” he added.
Furthermore, he thanked the people of Kurdistan for their patience in the face of many challenges, including the issue of unpaid or delayed salaries.
“This is an issue we continue to address with the federal government in order to find a fundamental solution. As the KRG, we have fulfilled all our obligations, and we call on the federal government to fulfill its obligations regarding the rightful financial entitlements of the people of Kurdistan.”
Prime Minister Barzani also added that they will work on restoring 24/7 electricity after some energy companies reduced their production to protect themselves, which led to a decrease in electricity generation.
“This is temporary. We hope the situation will return to normal. I ask our people to remain patient and understand that what has happened was beyond our will, but we are making every effort to minimize the impact on the people of Kurdistan. God willing, security and stability will once again return to the Kurdistan Region and the wider area.”
