On Tuesday, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani spoke by telephone with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed al-Nahyan and condemned the drone attack that targeted the UAE Consulate General in Erbil last night.
“I spoke with my brother HH Sheikh @MohamedBinZayed about regional developments and reaffirmed further strengthening our bilateral ties,” Prime Minister Barzani posted on X.
“We condemned last night’s drone attack on the UAE Consulate General in Erbil and stressed that the attacks are unacceptable and won’t deter us.”
The KRG readout said that both “sides condemned the attack that targeted the UAE Consulate General in Erbil last night, and stressed that such attacks are unacceptable and will not deter the Kurdistan Region from continuing to provide a safe and secure environment for diplomatic missions.”
His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed expressed his appreciation for the KRG’s cooperation, and both sides emphasized the importance of supporting de-escalation efforts and safeguarding stability in the region.
Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani also spoke by phone with UAE President al-Nahyan on Tuesday, in which President Barzani strongly condemned last night’s drone attack.
President Barzani stressed the responsibility of the federal government of Iraq to protect diplomatic missions and take serious steps to prevent such attacks and hold the perpetrators accountable.

On Tuesday, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the “unprovoked terrorist drone attack” that targeted the Consulate General of the UAE in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and resulted in material damage with no injuries reported.
The KRG Department of Foreign Relations and Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also strongly condemned the attack.
