Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received a telephone call from U.S. Ambassador to Turkey and Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack, in which they both condemned attacks on the Kurdistan Region and U.S. facilities in Baghdad.
According to the KRG readout, both condemned attacks on the Kurdistan Region and the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.
Moreover, they also discussed the situation in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the wider region.
Prime Minister Barzani and Ambassador Barrack agreed to stay in close contact.
Since February 28, there have been several attacks on the Kurdistan Region. The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad and Victoria Base – also known as Camp Victory – have also been attacked on a regular basis.
Furthermore, oil facilities in both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region have been targeted.
“We strongly condemn the militia drone attacks on [the Kurdistan Region’s] infrastructure and civilian sites, the recent targeting of the UAE Consulate General in Erbil and U.S. Embassy in Baghdad,” Safeen Dizayee, Head of the KRG Department of Foreign Relations, posted on X.
“Federal Government and security forces must disarm these lawless loose guns and protect international partners.”
On March 13, Aziz Ahmad, Deputy Chief of Staff to Prime Minister Barzani, reported that the Kurdistan Region of Iraq has been targeted by almost 50 drones, missiles, and rockets in the last two days.
“They have attacked civilian and military locations across our region. Many of the attacks are by Iraqi militias paid and armed by the Iraqi government,” Ahmad posted on X on Friday.
“The attacks by these groups have been met with a deafening silence from the Iraqi government. Zero condemnation. Zero action to remove the criminals in Mosul and Kirkuk who are targeting us. The KRG is not involved in this war; we have publicly declared neutrality.”
Furthermore, on Saturday, the UAE Consulate General in Erbil was attacked for the second time, injuring two people.
