KRG PM, Ambassador Waltz Discuss Attacks on Kurdistan, U.S. Facilities

On Sunday, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani spoke with the U.S. Representative to the UN Ambassador Michael Waltz.




According to the KRG readout, they discussed ongoing security challenges and attacks on the Kurdistan Region and U.S. facilities across the Middle East.


During the call, they also discussed the impact of the economic crisis on the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. The KRG’s decision to allow Iraqi oil exports through the Kurdistan Region’s pipeline was a step to help ease the country’s economic burden.


Both sides reaffirmed the enduring relationship between the United States and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.On Thursday, Prime Minister Barzani also spoke with Congressman Brian Mast, Chairman of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee, on the developments in the Middle East.


On Sunday, the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs said that a Peshmerga base in the Chamchamal area was targeted using an explosive drone.


According to a March 16 report from Community Peacemaker Teams - Iraqi Kurdistan, a total of eight individuals have been killed and 51 injured in the Kurdistan Region due to drone, ballistic missile, and rocket attacks since the beginning of the U.S.-Israel-Iran war on February 28.
