On Thursday, Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani spoke by telephone with the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani. The two leaders condemned the attacks on both Qatar and the Kurdistan Region that have been carried out since February 28.
“We condemned the terrorist attacks targeting the Kurdistan Region and Qatar, and expressed deep concern over the escalations and tensions in the region,” Prime Minister Barzani posted on X.
“We also agreed that outlaw militia groups pose a serious threat, and that the Iraqi government must bring them under control.”
Prime Minister Barzani also “reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s solidarity with the people of Qatar.”
Both sides agreed on the importance of continued communication and coordination in order to overcome current challenges.
Since February 28, both Qatar and the Kurdistan Region have faced hundreds of drone and missile attacks by Iran and Iran-backed groups.

On Tuesday, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Foreign Relations Office said that the majority of the attacks on the Kurdistan Region since February 28 have been intercepted or failed to reach their targets.
The KDP said that approximately 228 attacks – representing 60.76% of the 474 total drone and missile threats since February 28 – were intercepted, neutralized, or failed to reach their intended targets.
Moreover, the KDP said that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had carried out 179 attacks on the Kurdistan Region, while Iran-affiliated militia groups operating inside Iraq and funded by the Iraqi government had launched 295 attacks against the Kurdistan Region
