MoPA Holds Iran and Outlawed Groups Responsible for Attacks on Kurdistan

On Tuesday, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs (MoPA) said that it held Iran and outlawed groups responsible for an attack on a Peshmerga position, as well as on a civilian home in which a Peshmerga and his wife were killed.

“In the late hours of last night, April 6, 2026, outlawed terrorist groups targeted a Peshmerga forces position within the Raparin Administration using two explosive-laden drones,” the MoPA said in a statement.

“On the same night, a treacherous attack also targeted the home of Peshmerga member Musa Anwar within Erbil, using three explosive drones launched from Iranian territory, resulting, with great sorrow, in his death alongside his wife,” the statement added.

The MoPA underlined that these “attacks represent a dangerous continuation of a series of systematic sabotage operations targeting Peshmerga positions and civilian-populated areas across the Kurdistan Region. While we extend our sincere condolences and deepest sympathies to the families of the fallen, we affirm that the blood of our martyrs will not be in vain.”

Moreover, the MoPA also urged the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani to act against the attacks, “as it has become imperative for him to fulfill his constitutional, security, and legal duties, and to take urgent measures to put a definitive end to these attacks.”

“The targeting of civilians and civilian homes is a war crime. We will convey the voice of the victims to the international community to help end the oppression and the unjustified attacks against the people of the Kurdistan Region.”
