Peshmerga Fighter Succumbs to Injuries from Iranian Strike

On Tuesday, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani offered condolences to the family of Waisi Sherwani, a Peshmerga fighter who died today from injuries caused by an Iranian missile strike last month.

“I extend my deepest condolences to the family and relatives of the heroic Peshmerga Waisi Akhar Saeed Sherwani, who was one of those wounded in Iran’s unjust missile attack on Peshmerga forces in the Soran area and, with great sorrow, passed away today,” Prime Minister Barzani posted on X.

On March 24, 2026, six Peshmerga were killed and 30 were wounded in the Soran border area in two separate attacks by Iranian ballistic missiles. Now, the number of deaths has risen to seven.

“With great sorrow, today the heroic Peshmerga [Waisi Sherwani], one of the wounded from the missile attack on March 24 in Spilk, within the Soran Independent Administration, succumbed to the severity of his injuries and passed away as a martyr,” Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani said on Tuesday.

“I extend my deepest condolences to his respected family, relatives, friends, and fellow comrades. From the bottom of my heart, I share in their grief and sorrow. I pray to Almighty God to bless the soul of the martyr with His mercy and compassion, and to grant patience and comfort to all.”
