On Saturday, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani welcomed a delegation led by Iraqi Prime Minister-Designate Ali Falih al-Zaidy and discussed efforts to form a new federal government.
“I reaffirmed our support to form a new government and to resolve the outstanding issues between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government on the basis of the Constitution, with full respect for the rights of the people of Kurdistan, and the federal status of the Kurdistan Region,” Prime Minister Barzani posted on X.
“I also stressed that a new opportunity has emerged to address these issues fundamentally, ensure the fair treatment of the Kurdistan Region, and advance Iraq’s political process on the basis of partnership, balance, and consensus,” he said.
Furthermore, Iraqi Prime Minister-Designate al-Zaidi expressed “his appreciation for our support and emphasized that a stronger Kurdistan Region contributes to a stronger federal government, and reaffirmed his commitment to the fair treatment of the people of Kurdistan.”
Kurdistan Democratic Party President Masoud Barzani also received Iraqi Prime Minister-designate al-Zaidi.During the meeting, both sides stressed the need to expedite the formation of the federal government in accordance with electoral entitlements and within the constitutional timeframe.
President Barzani addressed recent developments and underscored the importance of resolving the outstanding issues between the federal government and the KRG in accordance with the constitution.

“Their discussions focused on a range of topics, particularly the formation of the new Iraqi government. Both sides emphasized the necessity of enhancing dialogue among political entities to establish a government that represents all Iraqi communities and meets their aspirations,” the Kurdistan Region Presidency said.
“The meeting also covered the management of Erbil-Baghdad relations and the resolution of issues in accordance with constitutional principles and applicable laws.”
