On Saturday, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaidi during his official visit to Baghdad.

“In my meeting with Federal Prime Minister @AliFalihAlzaidy, we emphasized the importance of resolving issues on the basis of respect for the Constitution and the federal status of the Kurdistan Region,” KRG Prime Minister Barzani posted on X.

According to the KRG readout, Prime Minister Barzani congratulated Prime Minister al-Zaidi on assuming office and reaffirmed the KRG’s support for the success of his government in serving all Iraqi citizens and components without distinction.

Prime Minister Barzani also stressed the importance of fundamentally resolving the issues between the KRG and the federal government on the basis of the Constitution and with respect for the federal status of the Kurdistan Region.

Iraqi Prime Minister al-Zaidi expressed his pleasure at receiving Prime Minister Barzani and emphasized that all Iraqis are partners in this country and share the goal of finding solutions, reaching agreements, and serving all citizens and components without distinction.

Both sides agreed on the importance of strengthening cooperation and coordination between the federal government and the KRG in order to resolve differences and overcome the challenges.

On Saturday, KRG Prime Minister Barzani headed a high-level government delegation to Baghdad.

In Baghdad, Prime Minister Barzani is expected to meet with the President of the Supreme Judicial Council and a number of senior officials from Iraq’s political parties.

The meetings will focus on efforts to resolve the outstanding issues between the KRG and the federal government on the basis of the Constitution, alongside discussions on the latest developments and changes in the overall situation in Iraq and the region.

On Saturday, Prime Minister Barzani also met with Haibat al-Halbousi, Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives.

According to the KRG readout, they emphasized the role of the Council of Representatives as an important legislative institution in serving all components and addressing national issues.

They also agreed on the importance of resolving the outstanding issues between the KRG and the federal government on the basis of the Constitution. With respect to this, they stressed the importance of preparing and approving a number of national laws that safeguard the rights of all components on the basis of the federal system and the constitutional status of the Kurdistan Region.
