During an official visit to Baghdad on Saturday, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with several Iraqi officials, including Judge Faiq Zaidan, President of the Supreme Judicial Council of Iraq, and underlined that the constitutional rights of the people of the Kurdistan Region and all components of Iraq should be safeguarded.
“We discussed the political and overall situation in Iraq, and emphasized the important role and independence of Iraq’s judicial authority in preserving security and political stability in the country,” Prime Minister Barzani posted on X.
“We also agreed on the importance of respecting the Constitution and the federal system, as well as safeguarding the constitutional rights of the people of Kurdistan and all components.”

Currently, KRG Prime Minister Barzani is on an official visit to Baghdad to meet with the leadership of the Iraqi political parties after the new Iraqi government was formed this month by Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaidi.
During his visit, Prime Minister Barzani said that the “Kurdistan Region will do everything it can to provide electricity to the rest of Iraq, particularly during the upcoming summer.”
KRG Prime Minister Barzani emphasized that the KRG is ready to share expertise and technical assistance from the Runaki program to help Iraq achieve 24-hour electricity access.
During his official visit, KRG Prime Minister Barzani also met with Mohsen al-Mandalawi, head of al-Asas Alliance, during which both sides underlined the need to further develop joint cooperation and coordination between Iraq’s political parties and the Kurdistan Region in order to resolve problems and overcome obstacles.Furthermore, he met with Muthanna al-Samarrai, Leader of the Azm Alliance.
During a meeting between KRG Prime Minister Barzani and Haider al-Abadi, former Iraqi Prime Minister and leader of the al-Nasr coalition, the two leaders exchanged views on the political process, reforms in the Kurdistan Region, and the general situation in Iraq and the region.
They agreed on the need for the federal government to serve all Iraqi citizens and components in a fair and equal manner.
During his visit, Prime Minister Barzani met with Mohammed al-Halbousi, head of the Sunni Taqaddum Party in a reset of relations. Relations between the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Taqadum Party worsened in 2024, when al-Halbousi opposed the arming of Peshmerga forces with heavy weapons.
The head of the Taqadum Party expressed his pleasure at the KRG Prime Minister’s visit to Baghdad, affirming his party’s full support, as well as his personal backing, for the constitutional rights of the people of Kurdistan, and support for efforts aimed at resolving the outstanding issues between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government in accordance with the Constitution, the KRG readout said.
For his part, Prime Minister Barzani expressed his thanks and appreciation for the support shown by al-Halbousi, stressing the importance of strengthening cooperation and coordination among the various political parties in a way that guarantees the protection of the rights and interests of all components in Iraq.
Prime Minister Barzani also met with Abdul Hussein al-Moussawi, Head of the National Approach Alliance, who was recently appointed as the federal Minister of Health.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Barzani congratulated al-Moussawi on gaining parliament’s confidence and assuming the post of Minister of Health in the new federal government.
The meeting also underscored the mutual importance of resolving all outstanding issues through dialogue, as well as the need to fully adhere to the constitution and protect the rights of all components of the country.
