On Tuesday, Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani expressed his condolences after the death of two members of the U.S. and UK armed forces during a training exercise in Erbil on May 31.


“I extend my sincere condolences to their families, colleagues, and the leaderships of both nations at this difficult time,” Prime Minister Barzani posted on X.

“We are proud partners and allies of the United States and the United Kingdom, working together in support of the stability and security of the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the wider region.”


Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani also posted on X expressing his “deepest condolences to the United States’ and the United Kingdom’s militaries on the passing of two American and British service members who lost their lives during a training mission in Erbil.


“My thoughts and prayers are with their families and loved ones during this difficult time.


“We highly value the contributions of the US and the UK, and their continued engagement in supporting the security and stability of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.”


“On 31 May, a U.S. Army soldier died during a military training accident at Erbil Air Base in Iraq,” the U.S. Army Central and Third Army’s official account posted on X yesterday. “The training was conducted with our British Army partners who also lost a soldier. The incident is under investigation.”
