KRG PM Barzani, Former Turkish PM Davutoğlu Discuss Regional Developments

On Tuesday, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received Ahmet Davutoğlu, leader of the Future Party and former Prime Minister of Turkey.

In the meeting attended by Turkey’s Consul General in Erbil Erman Topçu, they exchanged views on developments in Iraq and the wider region.

Both sides underscored the importance of further strengthening relations and enhancing cooperation and coordination between the Kurdistan Region and Turkey across areas of mutual interest.

In a post on X, Davutoğlu said that he had met KRG Prime Minister Barzani with his delegation. “In addition to our deep-rooted historical and cultural ties, we discussed possible joint steps that can be taken for the peace and stability of our region. I thank Mr. Barzani and his delegation for their kind hospitality.”

In November 2024, Davutoğlu attended the Fifth Middle East Peace and Security Forum and told Kurdistan Chronicle that he hopes that one day President Masoud Barzani will come back to Turkey to lend support to the peace process between the Kurdistan Workers’ Party and the Turkish government.

“We should work for that. We can come to Erbil, and he can come to Diyarbakir. There is no difference.”
