Kurdistan Welcomes Peace Deal Between U.S., Iran

On Monday, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani posted on X that he welcomed the announcement of the peace deal between the United States and Iran.


“I hope all parties will work in good faith toward the full implementation of the agreement, aiming to strengthen regional stability, security, and prosperity.


“I extend my sincere appreciation to all those who played a role in facilitating and supporting this achievement.”


On Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the United States had reached a deal with Iran.  


“This Great Deal will bring Peace and Security to the whole Region. Many presidents have tried to make Peace with Iran, and all have failed before me,” he posted on Truth Social. 


“The Leaders of the Region have, for the first time, found a President who can help them achieve real Peace. With the opening of the Strait upon the signing of the Deal on Friday, for purposes of mine removal, oil will flow on both ends again for the Region, and the World!”


On February 28, 2026, the United States and Israel launched a massive, coordinated military campaign against Iran. 


On April 8, President Trump announced a ceasefire, but no permanent deal was reached between Iran and the United States and tensions continued.

According to data from the Kurdistan Regional Government Department of Media and Information, between February 28 and April 20, 2026, the Kurdistan Region was subjected to 809 attacks by Iran and Iranian-affiliated groups. These resulted in the deaths of 20 civilians and left 123 others injured.


These attacks targeted diplomatic facilities, commercial interests, government institutions, and civilian infrastructure, including in the Kurdistan Region and neighboring countries.
