On Monday, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received UK Ambassador to Iraq Irfan Siddiq, who praised Prime Minister Barzani’s visit to Baghdad last month.
Ambassador Siddiq described the visit as a successful step toward resolving outstanding issues between the KRG and the federal government in accordance with the Iraqi Constitution.

Furthermore, they discussed the situation in Iraq and the latest regional developments, reaffirming the importance of further strengthening relations between the Kurdistan Region and the UK.
They also stressed the need to support the federal government in preserving peace and stability and addressing the challenges facing the country.
Prime Minister Barzani also underscored the importance of reactivating the Kurdistan Region Parliament as a vital legislative institution, emphasizing that its resumption is essential to ending the political stalemate in the Kurdistan Region.
A new Kurdish cabinet still has not been formed following elections held on October 20, 2024, despite talks between the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the Kurdistan Democratic Party, and calls by the United States to form a new government.
Additionally, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received Ambassador Siddiq and discussed the UK’s relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, the political situation in Iraq, and the formation of the federal government, and stressed the importance of continued cooperation and coordination of political forces in order to maintain stability, peace, and sovereignty.
The two officials exchanged views on the political situation in the Kurdistan Region and the efforts to overcome and resolve internal problems, and underscored the necessity of continuing the dialogue and understanding between Erbil and Baghdad to resolve outstanding issues.
They welcomed the announcement of the peace agreement between the United States and Iran and hoped it would lead to peace and stability in the region, and stressed the importance of peaceful resolutions to conflict.
