Safe Haven, the acclaimed stage production written by Chris Bowers and directed by Yad Deen, is returning to London’s Arcola Theatre following its successful previous run.
The play is based on the real events of 1991, when millions of Kurds fled their homes in hopes of escaping the genocidal military actions of Saddam Hussein’s Ba’ath regime.
Safe Haven tells the story of two diplomats and a Kurdish refugee who pushed the UK government to act and prevent continued oppression against the Kurds.
It explores how moral conviction and diplomatic pressure contributed to Operation Safe Haven, asking what responsibility governments bear when catastrophe is unfolding in plain sight.
