KRG PM Barzani Reaffirms Ties with Canada

On Tuesday, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani received a delegation from Canada’s Parliamentary Friends of the Kurds group, and reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s commitment to further enhancing ties with Canada.

The delegation included Conservative member of Parliament Ziad Aboultaif and Liberal member of Parliament Ahmed Hussen, the latter of whom formerly served as Canada’s Minister of International Development and is the current Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee.

The delegation provided an overview of their activities within Canada’s Parliament and outlined the objectives of their visit, which focused on further strengthening relations between the Kurdistan Region and Canada.

They reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to deepening cooperation with the Kurdistan Region across a range of sectors and expressed their support for expanding bilateral engagement.

KRG Prime Minister Barzani warmly welcomed the delegation and expressed his appreciation for Canada’s longstanding support and partnership with the Kurdistan Region.

The group was first established in 2016, and revived with support of the Kurdish Diaspora Confederation last year.

The delegation was also received on Monday by President Masoud Barzani, who thanked the people and Government of Canada for their support and cooperation at various stages, especially their support for the people of Kurdistan and the Peshmerga forces during the war against ISIS.
