KRG Helps Baghdad Recover 358 kg in Gold

On Monday, the investigating judge of Iraq’s Central Combating Corruption Criminal Court announced that 358 kilograms of gold had been recovered in coordination with the Kurdistan Regional Government and under the supervision of the President of the Supreme Judicial Council Judge Dr. Faiq Zidan.

The judge added that 17 kg were seized in another investigative case, bringing the total amount of gold recovered to 375 kg.

He continued that the recovered gold was handed over to the Director General of the Issuance and Treasury Department at the Central Bank and his deputy, as part of efforts to complete the investigations in the case of the detained Oil Ministry Undersecretary for Refining Affairs, Adnan al-Jumaili — who was arrested in May — and to recover the movable and immovable assets obtained from this crime and punish the perpetrators according to the law.

In June, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi launched “Operation Dawn”, a major nationwide anti-corruption crackdown targeting current and former politicians, lawmakers, business figures, and senior officials.

On Sunday, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani participated in the Iraqi State Administration Coalition meeting held in Baghdad, ahead of Iraqi Prime Minister al-Zaidi’s upcoming visit to the United States.

In a press release, the Kurdistan Region Presidency said that the meeting reviewed the general situation in Iraq along with the latest regional developments.

The meeting underscored the importance of dialogue and mutual understanding, while firmly opposing war and the escalation of regional tensions. It also reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to serving as a platform for dialogue and advancing the interests of the people of the region.
