Kurdistan Presidency Condemns Drone Attacks on Kurdistan

The Kurdistan Region Presidency on Friday “strongly” condemned the drone and missile attacks on the Kurdistan Region, warning that such attacks “hamper peace efforts in the region.”

“We strongly condemn the attacks on the Kurdistan Region. Targeting the Kurdistan Region and reigniting violence is a dangerous escalation and a blatant violation of Iraq’s sovereignty. These attacks threaten the country’s stability and undermine efforts to achieve peace in the region,” the Kurdistan Region Presidency said.

According to information from the Kurdistan Counter-Terrorism Directorate, early this morning, Friday, July 17, 2026, between 4:19 am and 5:25 am, coalition forces intercepted and shot down eight bomb-laden drones over the skies of Erbil.

On Wednesday, eight drones were intercepted by the U.S.-led coalition.

Also on Friday, nine members of the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan were killed after the Islamic Republic of Iran launched six missiles at one of the party’s camps in the Zargwez area in Sulaymaniyah in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, the Iranian Kurdish human rights organizations HANA and Hengaw reported.
