KRG Calls on Iran to Stop Attacks on Kurdistan Region

On Friday, the Kurdistan Regional Government Presidency of the Council of Ministers called on the Islamic Republic of Iran to stop attacks on the Kurdistan Region.


The Presidency strongly condemned “the unjustified attacks carried out by the Islamic Republic of Iran against the Kurdistan Region.


“The continuation of these attacks constitutes a grave threat to regional peace and security and risks further destabilizing the entire region,” the Presidency said.


“We call on the Islamic Republic of Iran to immediately halt these attacks, respect the sovereignty and stability of the Kurdistan Region. We also call upon the federal government of Iraq and the international community to put an end to these violations.”


The Kurdistan Region Presidency on Friday also “strongly” condemned the drone and missile attacks on the Kurdistan Region.


According to the Kurdistan Counter-Terrorism Directorate, on Friday, eight drones were intercepted over Erbil. On Wednesday, eight drones were also intercepted by the U.S.-led coalition.


Also on Friday, nine members of Iranian Kurdish opposition party the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan were killed by missiles launched by Iran on the party’s camps in the Zargwez area in Sulaymaniyah.


There were also strikes on the Surdash camp in Sulaymaniyah, although no casualties were reported.
