Kurdistan Region Honors Departing EU, UK, and French Diplomats

On Tuesday, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani bid farewell to Radu Butum, Head of the EU Liaison Office in Erbil, and Andrew Bizley, Consul General of the UK in the Kurdistan Region. KRG Prime Minister Barzani also received Liu Jun, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China, to discuss regional developments.


Prime Minister Barzani thanked the Head of the EU Liaison Office for his efforts throughout his tenure to strengthen relations between the Kurdistan Region and the member states of the EU.


EU representative Butum expressed his appreciation for the support, cooperation, and close coordination extended by the KRG, which contributed to the success of his mission.


Furthermore, in a separate farewell, Prime Minister Barzani thanked the UK Consul General for his efforts in strengthening bilateral relations across a range of sectors.


The Prime Minister also reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s readiness to further enhance coordination and cooperation with the UK.


Consul General Bizley expressed his appreciation for the support and close coordination he received from the relevant institutions of the KRG. He also reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to continuing its support for the Kurdistan Region.


Furthermore, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received Yann Braem, the departing Consul General of France in Erbil, as Braem’s tenure came to an end.


During the meeting, President Nechirvan Barzani expressed his gratitude to Consul General Braem for his dedicated service and pivotal role in strengthening the friendship and relations between France and the Kurdistan Region, wishing him success in his future endeavors.


In response, Consul General Braem conveyed his appreciation for the opportunity to serve in the Kurdistan Region, expressing his gratitude to President Nechirvan Barzani and the region’s institutions for the valued support and cooperation extended to him throughout his tenure.


Prime Minister Barzani also received China’s Consul General Jun and exchanged views on the situation in Iraq and tensions in the region.


They emphasized the importance of preserving the security and stability of the Kurdistan Region and maintaining peace and stability in Iraq and the wider region.


Both sides agreed on the importance of reactivating the Kurdistan Parliament and forming the new KRG Cabinet.
