On Wednesday, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Department of Foreign Relations said that the KRG looks forward to maintaining security and military cooperation through the appropriate bilateral and multilateral frameworks now that the U.S.-led Coalition mission has concluded in Iraq.

“The conclusion of the Coalition’s mission has proceeded through full cooperation and coordination between the KRG and the Federal Government of Iraq. Both sides remain committed to working together to prevent the resurgence of ISIS and confront any threat to the security and stability of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region,” the KRG Department of Foreign Relations said.

“The conclusion of the military mission represents a transition, not the end of the partnerships built over the past 12 years,” the Department said.

Since 2014, Coalition personnel have worked alongside the Iraqi Security Forces and the Peshmerga, providing combat support, training, advice, intelligence, equipment, and logistical assistance. “These collective efforts helped protect the Kurdistan Region, liberate communities, and achieve the territorial defeat of ISIS,” the Department said.

“The Department of Foreign Relations presents special tribute to those who lost their lives or were injured during the mission. Their courage and service will always be remembered with the highest respect and appreciation.”

Additionally, the Department of Foreign Relations reaffirmed “the enduring gratitude of the KRG and the people of the Kurdistan Region to all members of the Global Coalition.”
