Renowned Kurdish fashion designer Lara Dizeyee will take the stage at TEDx Minara on October 24 to discuss her career and artistic process.
Under the theme “Beyond the Horizon,” this year’s event will celebrate innovators, thinkers, educators, artists, and changemakers who push boundaries and challenge conventional thinking.
“My upcoming TEDx talk is very close to my heart,” Dizeyee said. “It explores the beautiful space between surrealism and realism, and how imagination, instinct, and the courage to believe in ourselves can shape the reality we create.
“It’s the story of a little girl who grew up with an entire world inside her, filled with colors, dreams, stories, and endless possibilities. A world that perhaps no one else could see, but one she believed in deeply. The world within her whispered, and she listened. She never asked anyone to believe in what she imagined. She simply believed enough to bring it to life.
“Through my journey, I want to share something I’ve come to believe deeply: imagination is not always an escape from reality. Sometimes, it is the beginning of a reality waiting to be born,” she added.
Three years ago, Dizeyee was appointed Kurdistan’s Cultural Ambassador in recognition of her contributions to the fashion industry.
In 2025, she was recognized by the U.S.-based Gladys magazine as one of the world’s 25 most inspiring people. She also became the first Kurdish fashion designer to be invited to the Cannes Film Festival. In 2026, she delivered the opening speech at TEDx Sulaymaniyah.
“As a pioneering force in the fashion world, I’ve had the honor of being featured in an array of esteemed publications, including Harper’s Bazaar, Forbes, Vogue Arabia, Elle, and Marie Claire. These notable mentions serve as a testament to my dedication to innovative design and my passion for pushing the boundaries of style,” she added.
