On Sunday, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani launched three industrial projects and a tourism project in the Zakho Independent Administration.

“I am pleased to be back in Zakho, where we inaugurated the Global Development commercial project and Nissan’s main vehicle distribution hub for the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, which will distribute nearly 2,000 vehicles a month,” KRG Prime Minister Barzani posted on X.

“We also laid the foundation stone for Motor Plex Iraq, a new car-racing and tourism complex.

“Together, these projects will create hundreds of job opportunities for young people and local residents,” he added.

“As part of its agenda, the KRG, in cooperation with the private sector, has attached great importance to tourism. This has been part of the KRG cabinet’s policy to diversify the economy of the Kurdistan Region and increase its sources of income,” Prime Minister Barzani said at the launch of the Zakho National Tourism Project.

“The Kurdistan Region, particularly the Badinan region, has many beautiful tourist destinations and an important geographical position. It also offers significant opportunities for tourism, which could become one of the region’s most important sources of income and create many jobs for our people, especially our young people,” he added.

He also attended the opening of three industrial projects in Batel subdistrict, including the Golden Global Development project and a Nissan branch. Additionally, he laid the foundation stone for the Motor Plex Iraq project and witnessed the signing of an agreement with Chinese automaker Jetour to establish a vehicle assembly plant.

“Previously, considerable importance was attached to the agricultural sector. We now have the same approach toward industry,” Prime Minister Barzani said.

“Tourism is another sector to which we have devoted considerable attention. Together, these sectors can complement one another, both by organizing and expanding employment opportunities for our people and by advancing the economy of the Kurdistan Region.”

Jetour, a Chinese company involved in vehicle assembly and manufacturing, will establish what is expected to be the first project of its kind in the Kurdistan Region. “It will significantly advance the automotive industry in Kurdistan and create additional jobs in this area,” Prime Minister Barzani added.
