In a post on Saturday, Sheikh Baz Karim Barzinji, CEO of the Iraqi Kurdish oil company KAR, announced that the natural gas network in the Kurdistan Region is now fully connected.
“Natural gas produced in the Region is now transported through an extensive, unified pipeline network from Kormor to Duhok, reaching power plants, factories and industrial facilities directly,” he posted on X.
He underlined that this step marks an important milestone in energy security and also provides a key foundation for further development of the country’s industrial sector.
In parallel, he noted that the volume of oil exported by the State Oil Marketing Organization (SOMO) through the Kurdistan oil pipeline has increased from 250,000 to 500,000 barrels per day.
“If the pipeline reaches its maximum export capacity of one million barrels per day, approximately 33% of Iraq’s total oil exports will reach international markets through the Kurdistan oil pipeline.”
On Thursday, the Kurdistan Regional Government Ministry of Natural Resources stated that the volume of oil exported by SOMO through the Kurdistan oil pipeline had increased from 250,000 to 500,000 barrels per day.
“We extend our thanks and appreciation to all parties who contributed to achieving this milestone for our country,” he concluded.
