On Tuesday, President Masoud Barzani thanked government officials, diplomats, religious leaders, tribal figures, and others for their condolences following the September 4 death of his elder brother, Abdulwahid Ibrahim Sheikh Abdulsalam Barzani.

The funeral proceedings and subsequent mourning receptions were held in Barzan and Pirmam.

Several Middle Eastern leaders sent messages of condolence to the Barzani family, including Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed al-Nahyan, and UAE Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum.

“We extend our thanks and appreciation to government officials, political entities, members of the Iraqi Parliament, prominent figures, and tribal leaders in Iraq and Syria; officials and representatives of Arab and Gulf states,” President Barzani said.

He also expressed his gratitude to “political figures and parties from other parts of Kurdistan; and members of the Kurdistani diaspora abroad who offered their condolences and shared in our grief through messages, letters, and telephone calls.”

Several Iraqi leaders, including Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, sent messages of condolence to President Barzani.

“The sincere expressions of sympathy, solidarity, and shared grief shown by the beloved people of Kurdistan will forever remain a source of our deepest respect and enduring gratitude,” President Barzani concluded.
