On Tuesday, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Department of Foreign Relations condemned the attacks targeting cities and economic facilities in several cities in Saudi Arabia.

“The KRG expresses its full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its people and firmly rejects targeting civilians and civilian facilities, or any actions that endanger the lives of innocent people, as such practices are contrary to humanitarian values,” the Department of Foreign Relations said.

“The KRG emphasizes that peace and dialogue are the best means of addressing crises and conflicts, and that continued escalation and violence will only deepen instability in the region, negatively affecting its peoples and their security.”

According to a statement from the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attacks by Yemen’s Houthis targeted four cities, including economic targets such as oil installations, resulting in the injury of 73 civilians, including women and children. 

The conflict between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthis escalated in July, after the ceasefire between Iran and the United States broke down.

Last week, during an online meeting, Safeen Dizayee, Head of the KRG Department of Foreign Relations, asked Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia, to reopen their consulates general in the Kurdistan Region as soon as possible. 

Saudi Arabia, and other Gulf Arab countries evacuated their consulates due to security reasons during the conflict between the United States and Iran. 

Saudi Arabia also condemned the August 17 drone attack on the KRG Prime Minister’s office.
