Kurdistan Region President Welcomes Progress on SDF-Syria Integration

On Wednesday, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani welcomed the significant progress made in the process of integrating the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) into the Syrian government.

“I see this as an important development toward strengthening Syria’s security and stability, and I call on all Kurdish parties and Syria’s various components to support these steps and contribute to their success,” he said.

“I highly value and commend President Ahmed al-Sharaa’s wise vision and his responsible approach to addressing issues through dialogue and understanding, as well as his leadership of Syria toward a better future. I also appreciate the role and efforts of Mazloum Abdi in making this process successful.

“We look forward to the completion of this process, which would mark the beginning of a new phase in Syria — one in which the rights of all its citizens and components are protected, and the country moves toward greater peace, security, stability, recovery, and prosperity.”

On Tuesday, SDF Commander-in-Chief Mazloum Abdi announced the end of the SDF’s mission and its official integration into the Syrian state, adding that they will work with Damascus to develop Kurdish language education.

On January 29, the SDF and Damascus reached an integration agreement after heavy fighting. The dialogue between Damascus and the SDF was backed by the Kurdistan Region.

On August 3, President Nechirvan Barzani visited Damascus, where he discussed the integration agreement with Syrian officials, including President al-Sharaa.
