A delegation from the EU Advisory Mission in Iraq (EUAM Iraq) and the Kurdistan Region’s High Committee for Police Reform visited Sulaymaniyah Governorate on August 24, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to advance police reform and strengthen institutional cooperation. The delegation also visited Erbil on Wednesday.

The visit provided an opportunity to review the progress of police reform implementation in Sulaymaniyah Governorate, including a visit to Saiwan Pilot Police Station, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Ministry of Interior said.

During the visit, EUAM Iraq Head of Mission Ralf Schröder also met with trainers from the organization Blue Culture, which supports a closer relationship between citizens and the police based on respect and trust. He expressed his appreciation for their efforts and encouraged them to continue communicating the principles of the Blue Culture. 

He also reaffirmed EUAM Iraq’s continued strategic advisory support for the Kurdistan Region’s police reform process.

On Tuesday, Schröder also visited Erbil Police and Kasnazan Pilot Police Station together with representatives of the High Committee for Kurdistan Police Reform, led by Rondak Faris, Head of the Leadership and Management Academy at the Ministry of Interior, members of the Ministry’s Program Office, and Brigadier General Saman Hassan, Police Director in the Western Netherlands.

The KRG Ministry of Interior stated that the visit provided an opportunity to review the progress of police reform implementation in Erbil Governorate.

The delegation was welcomed by Brigadier General Kamil Barzinji, Director of Erbil Police.The KRG Ministry of Interior leads the implementation of the Kurdistan Police Reform Strategy 2026–2030, with strategic advisory support from EUAM Iraq.
